What changes once the stand has to cross a border

Five items, all five settled before the design starts, because all five change the hall and the square-metre decision.

The calendar moves earlier, it does not get shorter

At a Turkish fair the paperwork and approval close one to two weeks before the doors open. Outside Türkiye the same process finishes one to two months ahead. That does not take time away from the design — it moves the start date earlier. Every quotation carries a production and installation plan counted backwards from that fair's opening day.

Customs and the ATA carnet

When a stand travels abroad the goods cross a border, and the instrument for that is the ATA carnet. Annex B1 of the Istanbul Convention on temporary admission names construction and decoration material used on exhibition stands explicitly. The carnet is issued by the chamber of commerce through the ATAK system, is valid for one year and can be used for four separate exits within it; regime code 2600 applies on the way out and 6326 on the way back. Samples and giveaways handed out on the stand are not written into the carnet and travel separately. No ATA carnet can be issued for Northern Cyprus. We run the formalities and the transport with the customs broker and logistics firms we work with; transport, build-up and dismantling are included in the quoted price.

Customs tariff code for a stand

A question asked often and answered wrongly just as often: an exhibition stand has no single customs tariff code. A stand is not one product but a sum of materials — aluminium structure, wooden panel, carpet, lighting, screens and printed fabric are each declared under their own chapter. The general list on the back of the carnet is where that classification is actually written down: one line per item, with its dimensions and value, specific enough for the goods to be identified again on the return. Your customs broker determines the final code, and Binding Tariff Information is obtained where it matters. A wrong code holds the stand at customs and it misses the fair — which is why we prepare that list item by item and hand it over.

Who puts it up, and where

Production is always ours: the stand is made in our own workshop in Istanbul. Outside Türkiye the installation is carried out by partner firms we have worked with for years. Above a certain scale — a large stand, or more than one job at the same fair — we produce here and our own crew travels to install. Which of the two your job falls under is not left to guesswork; it is written into the quotation.

Rigging: possible where Istanbul cannot

At the exhibition venues in Istanbul rigging is normally not available; at venues abroad it is. A concept that cannot be hung at home can be hung there. Even where it exists the permit remains the fair administration's to grant, so if anything in your design hangs from the roof we settle it before the hall and the square metres are fixed.

National pavilions

A pavilion places the companies of one country inside a single uniform stand. It is a different job from a single exhibitor stand: the scale changes and so does the administrative counterpart. The portfolio holds both — exhibitor stands we built abroad, and national pavilions we built at fairs in Türkiye — each with its credit.
